Stephen Russell, lovingly known around the world as The Barefoot Doctor, was a lifetime practitioner and teacher of Taoism, its medicine, philosophy, meditation practices, it’s martial arts and manifesting system, or wu wei. He was a prolific author of at least sixteen inspiring books on these practices which he wrote in his unique style, really connecting, speaking to the reader as though he was by their side. Barefoot was known for his work combining personal development with the electronic music he both personally composed and collaborated with others, running conscious electronic dance music events around the world.
His books, including Barefoot Doctor’s Handbook for the Urban Warrior, A Spiritual Survival Guide and Pure: A Path to Peace, Power and Prosperity, were published universally, along with numerous spoken word CDs and DVDs.
Barefoot Doc ran a successful acupuncture practice in London for seventeen years and for five years was a weekly columnist for The Observer.
It has been wonderful for Glastonbury to welcome Barefoot Doctor on a number of occasions with great friends here.
We were honoured to have Barefoot Doctor present a fantastic evening of pure inspiration in his ever-warming, witty style at Glastonbury Positive Living Group in 2016. We remember so well, his same brilliant, engaging interview on Glastonbury Radio’s Steve Lee Show earlier on the same day.
This evening we invite those who shared the inspiration we found in Stephen’s work, his wonderful spirit and friendship to come along to remember him together and to celebrate his life.
It will be an organic evening, a delight to read pieces of wisdom from Stephen’s writings, podcasts, and there will be Taoist/Aikido breath meditations. Do please bring your favourite quotes, your memories, what you would like to share.
If you would like to contribute something specific, please write to us as soon as possible in advance at email@example.com
Donations collected this evening will go towards one of the causes which we feel that Stephen would appreciate. When we most recently spoke with him he was passionately working on supporting young people who were facing difficulties.
Abbey House, Chilkwell Street, Glastonbury BA6.
The current schedule is: Doors from 7pm for start at 7.30pm.
Please check our website close to the event in case of any changes to the timing.
