The Tao of Drugs:
An Exploration of Chinese Medical Perspectives
on Psychoactive Substances

Living in Glastonbury you are guaranteed to encounter at least two things: Alternative medicines and psychoactive drugs.
In ancient times these two things would often come together hand in hand and increasingly in this New age the distinctions between the two are blurring. People are always looking for alternative ways to not only improve their health but to expand their consciousness and drugs are often a sure-fire way to achieve this. The ‘war on drugs’ has been lost. Let us accept the fact that people always have and always will, seek out mind-altering substances.
If we begin to recognise that all drugs start out as a medicine, then we can investigate their uses, effects and consequences in a mature and rational manner. We can also recognise that all drugs have an energetic effect as well as a chemical one and if we do that, we may be able to see how they can be utilised in a safer and more beneficial manner.
In this discussion, local acupuncturist Matt Fellows will explore the energetic effect of various drugs through the lens of Taoist philosophy. Using the theories of Yin and Yang and the Five Element medical system, Matt will take you on a journey in to the internal energetic system and describe how certain substances can affect your connection to the Universe as a whole.

Those of you who have attended Matt’s previous talks with the group will know how very special this evening will be.

Doors open from 6.30pm for a start at 7pm.
